What does the Party for the Animals think about animal activists who use violence or threats?

It is perhaps astonishing that this – at least in the Netherlands – is a frequently asked question. The question is only asked because a very small group of animal activists sometimes choose to take the path of illegality. For example, by liberating mink from their cages, or by threatening people who are involved in animal testing. Unfortunately, such incidents lead to other animal protectionists being asked whether they condone or distance themselves from such actions. The same applies to the Party for the Animals.

The answer is crystal clear: we reject the use of violence or threats of violence by animal activists. At the same time, we also point out, both within and outside of parliament, that the breeding ground for illegal activities should be eliminated. We should not lose sight of the fact the frustrations of some animal protectionists are caused by the distressing living conditions of, for example, laboratory animals or mink. The inhumane treatment to which many animals are subjected should be ended as soon as possible.
