The Party for the Animals is an association, which was established on 28th October 2002. At present we have around 7000 members, and our membership continues to grow rapidly. In 2006 and 2007, we were the fastest growing political party in the Netherlands!
A party congress, which all members have a right to attend, is held at least once a year. The congress is the most important decision-making body of the party and takes the most important decisions. Amongst other things, it decides the party programme and the candidate lists for elections, and votes on the budget and annual financial report.
The congress also elects an executive committee to deal with current affairs. The executive committee is, for instance, responsible for the everyday management of the Party for the Animals and stimulating participation in political debate. The executive committee is accountable to the party congress.
Our party bureau is housed in a historic building in the heart of Amsterdam. Seven people work there. They deal with the party organisation, association matters, communication, public relations, member administration, the guidance and training of active party members, devising activities, organising campaigns and congresses, and so forth.
Membership of the Party for the Animals costs 15 euros a year. As a political party, we receive a grant from the Dutch government. In addition, we also receive donations from sponsors.
