The Party for the Animals strives for the strengthening of the moral and legal status of animals through the recognition of animals as sentient beings. On a national level, the Party believes that the rights of animals should be constitutionalised and that animal welfare must be safeguarded by way of a separate animal welfare act. At the European level, the Dutch government should strive for the inclusion of a similar article in a new treaty or European constitution.

The Party for the Animals supports initiatives that seek to establish the improved status of animals in the form of a Universal Declaration of the United Nations with respect to the rights of animals.
