“Cowfunding” para liberar a la vaca Hermien del matadero
30 de enero de 2018 – Ayer el Partido por los Animales holandés concluyó con éxito una acción de crowdfunding para rescatar a una vaca llamada Hermien. La vaca supo escapar justo antes de ser llevado al matadero y lleva ya varias semanas escondida en un bosque en Holanda. Hasta ahora cazadores, agentes, veterinarios y granjeros no la han podido atrapar a pesar de un esfuerzo continuo. El Partido por los Animales decidió ayudar a Hermien recaudando el dinero para que ella tenga un retiro tranquilo en un refugio para vacas. Miles de ciudadanos holandeses mostraron su solidaridad y donaron dinero.
La parlamentaria Esther Ouwehand del Partido por los Animales: “Hermien está peleando por su vida y nosotros la vamos a ayudar. Ella nos recuerda un hecho importante: Ni un solo animal quiere ir al matadero.”
La vaca Hermien escapó cuando la pusieron en el transporte hacia el matadero. Desde entonces lleva más de seis semanas en el bosque mientras que la están cazando. Van diversos intentos de atraparla sin éxito.
El deseo por la libertad
No es la primera vez que una vaca muestra que quiere su libertad. El otoño pasado una vaca escapó de una granja en Polonia y se unió con un rebaño de bisontes salvajes en el bosque de Bialowieza. Parece que le está yendo bien. Tal como el bisonte, la vaca es una especie similar que vive en rebaño.
Donaciones
Miles de personas depositaron dinero y ayudaron a promover la acción a través de Twitter con los hashtags #HelpHermien y #FreeHermien.
El dinero se usará para asegurar que Hermien recibirá un buen trato por el resto de su vida en el refugio para vacas “De Leemweg”, que depende completamente de donaciones. De Leemweg adopta y cuida a vacas de todo Holanda. Se trata de vacas que escaparon o que fueron maltratadas o que por la razón que sea no tienen otro lugar para quedarse. Una vez en el refugio, los animales tienen la oportunidad de vivir sus vidas en paz hasta morirse a causas naturales cuando llega su tiempo.
Las anteriores acciones de crowdfunding del Partido por los Animales también fueron un gran éxito. En el 2006 se liberó el torro Bikkel que, después de una breve vida en una granja para niños, fue regalado para la cría. Asimismo, se salvó la vida de la vaca Sjoerdje por el partido después de que este también escapó en camino al matadero.
30 January 2018 – Last week, the Dutch Party for the Animals launched a successful crowdfunding campaign to save a cow called Hermien from slaughter. The cow managed to escape just before being taken to the abattoir and for weeks, she has hidden in the Dutch forests, evading capture by hunters, officers, vets and farmers. However, the hunt for the animal continued. The Party for the Animals decided to help Hermien by raising money that will allow her to live a quiet life in a cow shelter. Thousands of Dutch citizens sympathised and donated money.
Party for the Animals MP Esther Ouwehand: “Hermien is fighting for her life and we are going to help her. She reminds us all of an important lesson: no animal wants to be sent to slaughter.
Hermien managed to escape when she was being loaded for slaughter. Since then, she has remained in the forests for over six weeks, while being hunted. Several attempts to capture the animal have failed.
Desire for freedom
This is not the first time a cow has shown how much it values freedom. A cow that escaped from a farm in Poland last autumn, appeared to have joined a herd of wild bison in the Bialowieza Forest. And she seems to be in good condition. Like bison, cows are herd animals and closely related to one another.
Donations
Thousands of people have donated money and helped to make the campaign a success, e.g. by tweeting messages followed by #HelpHermien and #FreeHermien.
The money will be used to ensure that for the rest of her life, Hermien will be well cared for in cow shelter “De Leemweg”. The shelter is entirely dependent on donations, and adopts and looks after cows from the Netherlands that have escaped from slaughterhouses, cows that have been neglected, or, for whatever reason, have nowhere else to go. In the shelter, cows are allowed to live a quiet and peaceful life until their natural death.
Earlier crowdfunding campaigns launched by the Party for the Animals have also proven successful. In 2006, the party bought the freedom of a bull named Bikkel, who was discarded and given to a calf fattening farm after a short life in a petting zoo. The party also saved a cow called Sjoerdje from death after she had escaped on her way to the slaughterhouse.
