El PAN entrega una propuesta para terminar la caza de zorros y los crueles métodos de caza

The Portuguese party for the animals (People-Animals-Nature, PAN), has recently presented two bills: one that ends fox hunting in Portugal and another that prohibits cruel hunting methods like the use of packs of hounds and the use of ‘clubbing to death’ techniques.

PAN’s initiatives are in line with the “Movement for the Abolition of Fox Hunting”, a Portuguese citizens’ movement that has launched a petition for the same purpose, collecting more than 10,000 signatures in a very short time.

According to this Movement, fox hunting is a barbaric and cruel activity in which the hunters are allowed to club the foxes to death and to use up to 50 dogs to catch and kill them. Dogs, in this case, serve as a weapon against the fox. The fight between the dogs and a fox always results in the death or near death of the fox. During these fights many dogs end up seriously injured too.

PAN has also pointed out the legal inconsistency of using dogs to kill other animals during hunting, because fights between animals are legally prohibited in Portugal. An exception is made for ‘cultural events’, which can include fox hunting. According to PAN a fight between a fox and 1 to 50 dogs, is no less cruel than a fight between two dogs and therefore the use of packs of hounds for hunting should be banned too.

PAN says that these kinds of hunting methods are morally reprehensible and don’t belong in the 21^st century.

El Partido portugués por los animales (People-Animals-Nature, PAN), recientemente ha presentado dos propuestas: la primera para terminar el ‘fox hunting’, o bien, la caza de zorros y la otra para prohibir los métodos de caza crueles en que se usa una manada de perros y las técnicas de ‘apelar hasta la muerte’.

Las propuestas del PAN coinciden con aquellas del “Movimiento por la Abolición de la Caza de Zorros”, un movimiento civil de Portugal que ha lanzado una petición con el mismo objetivo, la recolección de más de 10 mil firmas en poco tiempo.

De acuerdo con este Movimiento, la caza de zorros es una actividad bárbara y cruel en que a los cazadores se les permite matar a los zorros a golpes y utilizar hasta 50 perros para atraparlos y matarlos. Los perros, en este caso, sirven como un arma contra los zorros. La pelea entre los perros y los zorros, casi siempre termina en la muerte del zorro o heridas fatales. Durante las peleas muchos perros también terminan lastimados.

Además, el PAN ha indicado la inconsistencia legal de usar perros para matar otros animales durante la caza, porque las peleas entre dos animales están prohibidas en Portugal. Sin embargo, se hace una excepción para ‘eventos culturales’ como la caza de zorros. De acuerdo con el PAN; la pelea entre un zorro y uno o hasta 50 perros no es menos cruel que una pelea contra dos perros y por lo tanto el uso de manadas de perros para la caza se de prohibir.

El PAN dice que estos tipos de métodos de caza son moralmente condenables y no tienen lugar en el siglo 21.
