El Partido para los Animales anuncia una comisión de investigación parlamentaria sobre el transporte de animales
Hace falta una comisión de investigación parlamentaria para investigar y parar la situación angustiante que se presenta en los transportes de animales que salen desde la Unión Europea. Esto fue anunciado la semana pasada por la Euro-parlamentaria Anja Hazekamp durante una conferencia de prensa del Eurogroup for Animals y Animals International en Bruselas.
En la Conferencia de prensa se presentaron imágenes horripilantes de transportes de animales que salen de la UE. Los animales afectados son transportados desde la UE a países como Turquía, Líbano y Egipto, con tiempos de viaje de hasta diecisiete días. Muchos animales se sobrecalientan, se deshidratan o mueren en el camino porque quedan relegados.
Preñados
Hasta animales preñados son transportados. Ellos dan a luz durante el transporte en camiones o en barcos. Animals International mostro imágenes de animales que después de haber tenido becerros sin haber sido anestesiados y sin ninguna atencion posterior o cesarias son transportados como que si fuera algo normal. De unas imágenes de las masacres resulta que carniceros incompetentes cuelgan los animales de las piernas para que luego los cortan el cuello en plena conciencia.
Problema estructural
Animals International destaca que no es una cuestión de hechos, sino un problema estructural; en 2016, más de 3 millones de animales fueron exportados desde Europa al Medio Oriente siendo expuestos a este cruel maltrato animal.
“Esta investigación afirma que las reglas Europeas actuales no protegen del todo a los animales cuando son transportados. Se trata de un problema de decenios de anos y que cada vez empeora”dice Hazekamp.
Diversos debates, llamados del Parlamento y millones de firmas de ciudadanos son sistematicamente ignorados por los responsables políticos en Bruselas. Incluso una sentencia del Tribunal Europeo de Justicia a 2015, que demuestra que la responsabilidad por el bienestar de los animales no se detiene en las fronteras exteriores de Europa, no ha llevado a ninguna acción”.
Encuesta
Si depende de Hazekamp a una comisión de investigación parlamentaria de encuestas se le da la tarea de investigar la legislación europea fracasada y la falta de cumplimiento en este terrible transporte de animales vivos. “Los responsables políticos que abandonan su tarea deben ser señalados y se debe investigar cómo poder frenar tan pronto como sea posible, la exportación de animales vivos a países fuera de la UE”, dijo Hazekamp.
Para poder iniciar la comisión de investigación parlamentaria se necesita el apoyo de por lo menos 188 miembros del Parlamento Europeo. Algunos europarlamentarios del grupo socialista y de los liberales del Parlamento Europeo en la Conferencia presentaron su apoyo directo en favor de la comisión de investigación parlamentaria.
A parliamentary committee of inquiry should be established in order to investigate and put an end to the distressing situations associated with animal transport leaving the European Union. This was announced by MEP Anja Hazekamp at a press conference of Eurogroup for Animals and Animals International in Brussels last Monday.
During the press conference, horrendous footage of animal transport from the EU was shown. The involved animals are transported from the EU to countries such as Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt, a trip that can take up to 17 days. Many animals suffer from overheating, dehydration or are crushed on the way.
Pregnant
Even pregnant animals are transported and give birth during transport inside trucks or on board ships. Animals International showed footage of animals that, after having had a Caesarean section without pre-stunning, aftercare or sutures, are simply put back on the road. Footage of the slaughters shows incompetent butchers who hang the animals from their legs and slit their throats while the animals are fully conscious.
Structural problem
Animals International stresses that these are not isolated incidents, but rather a structural problem: in 2016 alone, over 3 million animals were shipped from Europe to the Middle East and became the subject of this cruel form of animal abuse.
“This study confirms that the current EU regulations do not protect the welfare of transported animals. A problem that is age-old and the situation is only getting worse,” says Hazekamp.
“Various debates, calls from Parliament and millions of citizens’ signatures are subsequently ignored by policy makers in Brussels. Even a decision of the European Court of Justice in 2015, stating that the responsibility for animal welfare does not stop at the external borders of the European Union, has not given rise to any further action.”
Inquiry
If Anja Hazekamp has her way, a formal parliamentary committee of inquiry will have the task of investigating the failing European legislation and the lack of enforcement of the rules regarding the horrible live animal transport. “Policy makers who fail to carry out their tasks should be identified and it should be further explored how the export of live animals to countries outside the EU can be stopped as soon as possible,” according to Hazekamp.
“In order to set up a European parliamentary committee of inquiry, the support of at least 188 members of European Parliament is required. During the press conference, some MEPs of the Socialist Group and the Liberal Group in the European Parliament directly expressed their support for the committee of inquiry.
