PvdD: attivita’ illegali alla caccia primaverile di Malta
A fine marzo, il Partito per gli Animali ha trovato varie attivita’ illegali a Malta durante la controversiale caccia primaverile sugli uccelli migratori. Europarlamentare Anja Hazekamp osservo’ la caccia primaverile insieme a BirdLife Malta ed ha gia’ trovato subito sabato, nella prima ora della stagione di caccia, dei dispositivi per attirare gli uccelli nel campo di caccia. Questi dispositivi per la caccia degli uccelli sono vietati in Europa. Domenica e’ stato trovato un uccello morto di una specie che e’ tutelato e non puo’ essere cacciato. L’uccello e’ stato portat da un veterinario e sta bene.

Le situazioni trovate sono in aggiunta al fatto che la caccia di uccelli migratori, che stanno andando verso il loro luogo dove fare il nido, e’ vietata dalle linee guida europee di uccelli.
Durante un dialogo lunedi’, Hazekamp ha chiesto al governo maltese di chiudere la caccia degli uccelli migarori. Ha anche dato una lettera, firmata da europarlamentari da tredici paesi diversi e provenienti dalle sette frazioni UE principali del Parlamento Europeo. Nella lettera, i rappresentanti del popolo richiedono a Malta di chiudere la caccia primaverile ed aumentare le forze contro la caccia illegale.
Il segretario maltese Roderick Galdes (Agricoltura, Pesca e diritti per gli animali), dara’ una risposta scritta ufficiale alla lettera. Per il momento Galdes rifiuta di chiudere la caccia primaverile. Ha pero’ detto di aver coinvolto settanta ufficiali per prevenire le attivita’ di caccia illegali.
Hazekamp raccontera’ le sue osservazioni ai colleghi nel Parlamento Europeo. Inoltre resta in contatto con BirdLife Malta per rimanere aggiornata sulla situazione. Il Partito per gli Animali parlera’ delle attivita’ di caccia llegali osservate con il Comitato Europeo.
The Party for the Animals found several illegal activities at Malta at the end of March during the controversial spring hunting for migratory birds. MEP Anja Hazekamp observed the Maltese spring hunting together with BirdLife Malta and already came across electronic birds decoys on the hunting grounds in the first hour of the hunting season. The use of electronic bird decoys in bird hunting is prohibited in Europe. On Sunday, a shot marsh harrier – a protected bird species which is not permitted to be hunted- was found. It was brought to the vet and is recovering now.

The malpractices found are in addition to the fact that the hunting of migratory birds, which are travelling to their breeding grounds, is prohibited by the European Birds Directive.
Hazekamp asked the Maltese government during a discussion on Monday to stop the spring hunting of migratory birds. She also presented a letter, which was signed by MEPs from thirteen different countries and came from the seven largest groups in the European Parliament. In the letter, the people’s representatives call on Malta to stop the spring hunting and to increase their efforts against illegal hunting.
The Maltese Parliamentary Secretary Roderick Galdes (Agriculture, Fisheries & Animal Rights) will officially respond to this letter in writing. As yet, Galdes still refuses to stop the spring hunting. Galdes said that he deployed seventy enforcers to prevent illegal hunting activities.
Hazekamp will provide feedback on her findings to her colleagues in the European Parliament. Furthermore, she will maintain close contact with BirdLife Malta to stay informed of the situation. The Party for the Animals will bring the illegal hunting activities found to the attention of the European Commission.
