Finse Partij voor de Dieren nu officieel
Op 20 september werd de Finse Partij voor de Dieren officieel geregistreerd als politieke partij! De partij had de 5000 steunbetuigingen verzameld die in Finland vereist zijn om ingeschreven te worden bij het Finse register van politieke partijen. De volgende stap voor de partij is deelnemen aan de lokale verkiezingen in de lente van 2017. In 2019 volgen dan de parlementaire verkiezingen.
Van bezorgdheid op wereldniveau naar actievoering op lokaal niveau
Wereldwijd is er een groeiende bezorgdheid om de globale consequenties van de veehouderij voor het milieu en de maatschappij. De nadruk bij beslissingen aangaande klimaatverandering, het uitsterven van soorten en habitatverlies ligt de komende decennia op het terugdringen van dierlijke producten. Deze beslissingen bepalen uiteindelijk wat voor soort planeet en milieu we creëren voor onszelf en alle andere dieren in de nabije toekomst.
De Finse Partij voor de Dieren maakt deel uit van deze groeiende internationale beweging waarin dierenrechtenkwesties op de politieke agenda worden gezet. De Finse partij streeft ernaar mondiale uitdagingen op lokaal niveau aan te pakken door de gelijkheid van soorten te promoten en alternatieven voor de veehouderij te stimuleren. Tijdens de lokale verkiezingen wil de partij de bevolking informeren over de voordelen van een plantaardig dieet voor zowel het milieu als de gezondheid. In de praktijk zou dit neerkomen op het serveren van veganistische maaltijden in de publieke sector en het toekennen van landbouwsubsidies voor de productie van gewassen.
Internationale samenwerking
De Finse Partij voor de Dieren heeft deelgenomen aan verschillende internationale vergaderingen die georganiseerd werden door de Animal Politics Foundation. Volgens partijleider Saana-Maria Majatie is internationale samenwerking belangrijk:
“Er zijn gelijkenissen te zien in de manier waarop partijen voor de dieren wereldwijd tot stand komen. Deze vorm van politieke actievoering is begonnen in Europa, maar ondertussen zijn er partijen voor de dieren in de Verenigde Staten, Canada, Australië en sinds kort zelfs in Azië, in Taiwan,” aldus Majatie.
The Animal Justice Party of Finland was registered as an official party on 20.09.2016. The party collected 5000 supporter cards required in order to join the Finnish register of political parties. The next steps for the party will be participating in local elections in spring 2017. Parliamentary elections will follow on year 2019.
From global concern to local action
The global environmental and social costs of animal agriculture are starting to concern people worldwide. During the next decades the important decisions related to climate change, species extinctions and habitat loss are being made where moving away from animal production plays a key role. These decisions define what kind of environment our planet will provide us and for the other animals to live in in the near future.
The Animal Justice Party of Finland is a part of this increasing international movement where animal right questions are being politicized. Party is aiming to respond to global challenges in local level by promoting equality beyond species and alternatives for animal agriculture. In local elections party’s agenda is to increase the knowledge of the environmental and health benefits of plant-based diet. In practice this would mean providing vegan meals in public sector and allocating farming subsidies towards plant production.
International co-operation
The Animal Justice Party of Finland has been participating in International Animal Politics – meetings organized by Animal Politics Foundation. The president of Animal Right Party of Finland Saana-Maria Majatie considers international co-operation important:
“It is possible to notice similarities of the progression in the rise of animal right parties worldwide. Even though this kind of political action has started in Europe there are already Animal Right Parties in United States, Canada, Australia and recently in Asia too, in Taiwan”, Majatie comments.
