Parlamentul European este împotriva medicamentului veterinar din sânge de cal
Parlamentul European dorește să interzică importul medicamentului pentru uz veterinar gonadotrofină serică de iapă gestantă (PMSG), pentru care iepele gestante sunt practic jefuite de propriul sânge. O propunere a Partidului pentru Animale, de a adapta legislația UE astfel încât PMSG să nu mai fie binevenit în Europa, a primit un sprijin larg din partea Parlamentului European.
PMSG, un hormon din sângele iepelor gestante este, printre altele, utilizat în industria zootehnică neerlandeză și germană pentru a spori fertilitatea la animale. Pentru a obține hormonul, așa-numitele “ferme de sânge” din Argentina și Uruguay recoltează în mod sistematic cantități mari de sânge de la iepe gestante. Mai mult decât atât, organizația pentru animale, Eyes on Animals, a constatat recent abuzuri semnificative. Mânjii nenăscuţi ai iepelor crescute pentru sânge sunt avortați prematur sau strangulați. Iar iepele-mame pierd semnificativ în greutate și sunt epuizate din cauza recoltării excesive de sânge.
Producția de PMSG nu este permisă în Europa, din cauza modului brutal de producție. “Parlamentul European nu mai tolerează acum nici medicamente pentru uz veterinar pentru care animalele din afara Europei sunt abuzate. Acest lucru este încurajator. Abuzul iepelor gestante nu poate fi tolerat. Nici în Europa și nici în afara Europei”, a declarat europarlamentara Anja Hazekamp.
Este la latitudinea Comisiei Europene, administrația de zi cu zi a UE, să respecte cererea Parlamentului European și să introducă o interdicție cu privire la PMSG și la alte medicamente veterinare problematice.
The European Parliament wants to ban the import of the livestock medicine Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG), for which pregnant horses are deprived from their blood. The Party for the Animals’ proposal to amend EU legislation to such extend that PMSG is no longer welcome in Europe was broadly supported by the European Parliament.
PMSG, a hormone made of the blood of pregnant mares, is used in the Dutch and German livestock industry among other countries to improve the reproduction of animals. To produce the hormone, the so-called ‘blood farms’ in Argentina and Uruguay systematically extract large volumes of blood from pregnant mares. Animal welfare foundation Eyes on Animals recently found major abuses in this industry. Unborn foils of blood horses are prematurely aborted or squeezed to death. And the mother horses become very thin and grow weak because of excessive blood extraction.
PMSG production is no longer permitted in Europe because of the cruel method of production. “The European Parliament wants to no longer permit the import of livestock medicine for which animals outside of Europe have been mistreated. Very encouraging. The abuse of pregnant horses is just not acceptable. Not in Europe and not outside of Europe,” said MEP Anja Hazekamp.
It is up to the European Commission, the daily EU government, to accept the European Parliament’s request and to ban the import of PMSG and other problematic livestock medicine.
