Văcuța Hermien și prietena sa au scăpat dintr-un abator, bucurându-se acum de liniștea de pe pajiște

The cow Hermien and her mate Zus, who made it to the news, both nationally and internationally, after they had literally just escaped slaughter, were finally allowed out in the meadow again after months in their stable. The animals visibly enjoyed their freedom on the grass at the “De Leemweg” rest home for cows in the Dutch village of Zandhuizen, where they have been staying since February.

The owner of the rest home for cows, Bert Hollander, only let the cows outside last week because the weather and the grass were not optimal before. The grass is now high enough again and the cows can play in the meadow all day long until November.

“Cowfunding”
The story of Hermien and Zus started last December. They, together with other cows, were to be brought to the slaughterhouse. Fifteen cows entered the cattle truck without making any trouble, but Hermien and her mate Zus escaped. Cow Zus was quickly caught again, but Hermien stayed out of the hands of hunters, policemen, vets and farmers for weeks. But they continued trying to catch her.

After their spectacular escape, many Dutch people called for a stay of execution of both animals. Thanks to the “cowfunding plan” of the Dutch Party for the Animals, for which EUR 50,000 was raised, the freedom of both Hermien and Zus could be bought. The cows Zus and Hermien were finally brought to the rest home for cows last February. The rest of the money raised will be used to pay for the life-long care of both cows.

The Party for the Animals’ MP Esther Ouwehand was involved in the rescue operation of the cows from day one, and she was also there when the cows went to the meadow first. “They’re obviously very happy. They jump for joy and it’s great fun to watch them hang around together. Both cows reminded us of an important lesson: no animal wants to be brought to the slaughter. Non-human animals want their freedom too.”

Văcuța Hermien și prietena sa Zus, care au ajuns la știri pe plan național și internațional după ce au scăpat efectiv dintr-un abator, pot în sfârșit să meargă să pască pe pajiște după o perioadă de câteva luni. Animalele s-au bucurat în mod vizibil de libertate la ferma de vaci „De Leemweg” din satul neerlandez Zandhuizen, unde locuiesc din februarie.

Proprietarul fermei de vaci, Bert Hollander, le-a permis văcuțelor să iasă pe pajiște abia săptămâna trecută, întrucât până atunci iarba și condițiile meteo nu erau potrivite. Acum iarba este suficient de înaltă și văcuțele pot continua să se joace pe pajiște în fiecare zi până în noiembrie.

Povestea lui Hermien și Zus a început în decembrie anul trecut. Acestea urmau să meargă la abator, împreună cu alte văcuțe. Cincisprezece vaci au fost încărcate în camion, însă Hermien și Zus au scăpat. Văcuța Zus a fost prinsă în scurt timp, însă Hermien s-a ascuns preț de câteva săptămâni de vânători, agenți, veterinari și fermieri. În orice caz, căutarea a continuat.

După evadarea spectaculoasă, mulți cetățeni neerlandezi au solicitat amânarea execuției acestor animale. Mulțumită unei acțiuni de „cowfunding” organizată de Partidul pentru Animale neerlandez, care a strâns suma de 50,000 de euro, atât Hermien cât și Zus au fost răscumpărate. În sfârșit, Hermien și Zus au fost duse în februarie la ferma de vaci. Restul sumei strânse în cadrul acțiunii de caritate a fost folosită pentru a asigura îngrijirea ambelor văcuțe pentru tot restul vieții.

Esther Ouwehand, parlamentar din partea Partidului pentru Animale, s-a implicat în salvarea văcuțelor încă din prima zi și a fost de asemenea prezentă în prima lor zi pe pajiște: „Se vede că sunt într-adevăr fericite și este extraordinar să le vezi că stau împreună. Aceste văcuțe ne-au amintit de o lecție importantă: niciun animal nu vrea să meargă la abator. Chiar și animalele își doresc libertate.”
